News component has been
completely re-designed. The new version
is much improved and includes numerous new features. Access to all of these new
features is dependant upon whether or not you are a Premium or Standard news
subscriber. Needless to say the Premium news offers users significant
improvements to both functionality in terms of use and versatility of the
content viewed. In short the service allows users greater scope to customise
the news feature within the platform
N.B: Not all of the functionality outlined below is available to standard news users. Certain functionality is only available to premium news subscribers.
There are now 2 main windows and the
individual story window. The main News Headline window and the Dow Jones
Explorer window which can both be accessed from the toolbar icons shown below.

When first opened this window behaves
in exactly the same manner as the old news but contains some extra columns and
features. Double clicking on a story
creates a separate window in which the story is displayed. The story window behaves in the same way as
the preview pane described below.

This column will show P for
premium news stories and/or H for stories Dow Jones consider “Hot”
This column shows the source of the
story as defined by Dow Jones.
Pressing the “Preview Pane” button
activates the preview pane.

Detailed below is the decription of
each selectable icon in the preview pane.
Properties
The button starts another window
displaying low level information about the story. This window will not be useful on a day-to-day basis but allows
the developers to quickly find low level information about a story.

out. When pressed it will highlight
(the default colour is red) any words or expressions that match the “Keywords
&Phrases” search criteria. The
example below shows a story that matches the search term “superman” and has the
Search Term Highlight button enabled.

First, Previous,
Next, Last
These buttons allow quick movement up
and down the list of news stories contained within the news headlines window.
All of the following icons only appear if a keyword or symbol is recognised by Dow Jones within the current story that is being viewed either within the preview pane or a separate window.
Making a selection by clicking on one
of the buttons and selecting from the menu that opens can result in one of the
following behaviours :
1. When an item
from one of the menus on the buttons below is selected from the headline window
or an individual story window a new filter is started on the selected
item. The new filter will start in a
separate window.
2. When an item
is selected from the Dow Jones Explorer window and the Search panel is closed
the behaviour is the same as above.
3. When an item
is selected from the Dow Jones Explorer window and the Search panel is open the
item is added to the current search criteria.
This allows you to build up a search definition to be run afterwards or
saved.
